Lead Singer Tony Oros takes the Olympic Flame
in San Jose, CA on 18 January, 2002

Oros was selected for the patriotic nature of his musical endeavors.  Through Los Angeles’ AKA Productions, Oros has performed for American troops in over twenty countries on four continents.  In addition, Tony has performed the National Anthem for the Chicago Bears and other professional sports franchises.

As part of Chevrolet’s sponsorship program, Tony was nominated to be a Torchbearer by elementary school teachers Maria Howard of Moorpark, CA and Linda Moreland of Oswego, IL, whose 3rd grade class he addressed during American Education Week (Nov. 2001).

Moreland on why she nominated Tony:  Young people today need a positive role model, and Tony Oros is one.  His message of individual responsibility to set and work towards goals is one of the reasons I nominated Tony to be a torch bearer.  He is truly a person who loves his country and has showed it by entertaining the troops and telling school children about it.  Not only does his music reach out to the young, but his life exemplifies what is good in Americans today.

Maria Howard’s reasons for nominating Oros:  Inspired by his grandfather, a World War II veteran (Lewis Popp of Aurora, IL), Tony expresses his patriotism by using his musical talent to bring a little of the USA to our troops overseas.  His performances are a tribute to the men who serve their country now, and to one who served his country three wars ago. Carrying the Olympic torch is an extension of Tony's national pride, and it will make his grandfather very happy.
